Our Story / How We Started

Prashraya Welfare Foundation began from a core belief: every individual deserves an equal opportunity to rise.

“To make India great, we must build a society where every individual man or woman, rich or poor has an equal opportunity to learn, to contribute, and to hold their head high.”

This conviction turned a spark into a movement.

In 2019, what started as a small youth-led initiative called Team Aashraya in the village of Tumda, Madhya Pradesh, emerged from a deep understanding of the challenges faced by rural communities. We saw bright children struggling due to limited educational resources, women denied opportunities to build independent futures, and families facing barriers to quality healthcare. Entire communities were being left behind simply because of where they were born.

Instead of accepting this reality, we chose to act.

Our earliest efforts focused on bridging educational gaps and encouraging community participation, to create a society where every child can dream, every woman can thrive, every family can access opportunities, and every individual is treated with dignity, respect, and care. As more people joined our mission, our work grew beyond a single village. What began as a small movement of hope evolved into Prashraya Welfare Foundation, committed to building inclusive communities across India.

Today, we continue to create opportunities for children, women, and families, believing that empowering one life can transform an entire community. Founder & President

Prasharya Welfare Foundation (Team Aashraya)

Priyanshu Khemariya, Founder & President of the Prashraya Welfare Foundation (Team Aashraya), is a dynamic youth leader and NITK Surathkal alumnus who transformed his personal struggle into a national movement. Born in Tumda, a remote village in Madhya Pradesh to parents who never completed school, he received a foundational education that lacked proper guidance and resources.

Consequently, when he moved to the city for higher education, he faced significant challenges: language barriers, academic gaps, and social pressure. This led to a powerful realization that the core problem wasn't ability, but the absence of opportunity and support. Determined to ensure no child face the same disadvantage, he decided to solve this problem, eventually becoming the first NITian from his village after clearing the JEE with a 98.14 percentile to enter NITK Surathkal.

Inspired by Swami Vivekananda's urgent call to awaken youth and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's fervent spirit of national duty, he founded Aashraya at the age of 18 with the audacious goal of building an equitable society where every life-child, woman, and family is treated with dignity and respect. His commitment to social entrepreneurship is further strengthened by training from iB Hubs Startup School and STEP NITK Incubation.

Under his leadership, this dream has ignited the passion of 10,000+ volunteers, establishing over 400+ libraries, 35 learning centres, and 9 Aashraya Vidhyalayas and a digital center along with other projects, impacting lakhs across 20+ states with relentless compassion. His work has earned high-level appreciation from officials, including the School Education Minister of MP and the Chief Secretary of UP, alongside numerous other IAS officers, and is frequently executed in successful partnership with district administrations across the country.

Priyanshu Khemariya is not just a founder; he represents a new, inspiring generation of nation-builders leading with courage, empathy, and the unwavering belief that youth have the power to fundamentally transform India.
